Transparent Garbage Bags

Beginning January 1, 2026, transparent garbage bags are mandatory.  All waste must be placed in transparent garbage bags.

(You can use one small ‘privacy bag’ inside the transparent bag for privacy items.)  Please see the list of FAQs for more answers like this one.

A transparent bag program supports diversion initiatives, like the blue box recycling and the proper disposal of hazardous and prohibited items.
